I recently teamed up with dear friend and CEO of www.nothingbutsafetyglasses.co.uk, Timothy Good, for a pilot photo-shoot of some of his safety glasses being exposed and tested to adventurous environments we often find ourselves in. For this one the playground chosen was the ocean and the enemy was the the cold, wind and salty waves of the atlantic.
The idea was to visually prove that you don’t need to pay over rated prices to protect your beloved eyes while still looking cool. The truth and as we all know they will normally going to end, sooner or later, either lost, broken or seriously exposed to a prone to scratch environments. Despite the challenging conditions of a photo-shoot in a salty and bumpy environment I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. For a few more samples of the posters created, some behind the scenes images and the 3 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOUR ADVENTURE SUNGLASSES, hit the jump button below. You can also check the full set of images on my website gallery or the full set of posters here.
So here are some of my thoughts on adventure sunglasses after this shoot…
- ADVENTURE SUNGLASSES DON’T NEED TO BE EXPENSIVE TO BE GOOD AND COOL – We often pay hundreds of pounds for glasses to protect one of our most precious senses, our eyesight. The truth is that Bolle Safety Glasses, the Groove model tested during this shoot , only cost £7,73 and you can even find others like the my favourites, the Spider that will suit different types of face shapes.
- THEY SHOULD BE DISPOSABLE – Like the great war photographer Robert Capa used to say: “If your photographs aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.”. The same probably applies to your glasses, if they are not at risk of getting scratched, dropped from hundreds of meters or sinking in the ocean, you are probably not being adventurous enough! For me this is more than a good reason to want disposable ones. When I mean disposables I mean that next time I am dangling from a 300m wall for a photoshoot, I don’t really want to be thinking about my glasses! Get it?
- THEY SHOULD PROTECT MY EYES WHILE BEING REASONABLY COOL 🙂 – Well yeah! Just because we are trying to save some money doesn’t mean we have to compromise entirely. After all, if you are reading this is because you are probably drawn to good and compelling visuals… So, there is also that element! For your info, this specific model has lenses of ‘Optical Quality 1’ which is as good as you can get. The clear lens still provide 100% UV protection. See our advice section for more details on the optical quality classes. They are also anti-scratch and anti-fog.
If these are not good enough reasons for you to try a few sets and trow them at your dashboard and backpack for emergencies, at least take a look at some of the cool posters we created below or some of the screen grabs from the video footage.
